BACKGROUND
During my time leading AI transformation at a national media organization, I served on the AI Governance Council and on the Policies, Standards & Education subcommittee. What I learned: governance doesn't start with policy documents. It starts with visibility — knowing what AI you're actually using, where the risks are, and who's accountable.
This framework codifies that approach into a repeatable methodology.

AI suggests. Humans decide. Critical decisions that affect people's lives, perceptions, or outcomes require human judgment.

AI systems are probabilistic, not deterministic. Every output must be verified before it reaches your audience.

AI systems reflect the biases in their training data. Evaluate whether tools amplify or mitigate harm to the communities you serve.

If a tool or workflow isn't serving your mission, you must be able to pull back without systemic disruption. Build exit ramps into every AI decision.
